i love being able to use my blog as a way to clean out my IN box and to share shit with you all... here's what i've found out this week...

my mate jason paulos will be featured in a li'l special about australian comics on this week's 'mondo thingo' on abc (which is no use to you if you live outside of australia - but you can check out his work at hairbuttthehippo.com. and sydneysiders should tune into the glorious fbi next tuesday (3rd) as i'll be digging through the man's record collection when i guest present 'out of the box' from midday-1pm [plug, plug, plug...]

according to better propaganda, the new two lone swordsmen album "reconfirms its ability to take modernist beats to the darkest of places like their forefathers suicide, kraftwerk or perhaps gary numan". i've got a copy and i'd probably agree, just to be lazy.

rough trade have signed cornershop and describe their new release [the first in a few years] thus: "'topknot' is a sugar sweet asian pop nugget with vocals from bubbley kaur who tjinder and ben met at university in preston. the track is already a firm hit at indian weddings and on urban radio. it has the potential to be a big tune for the summer." so now you know. about the indian weddings i mean.

join the modular people mailing list and you can check out some new audio'n'video from those loveable sampleadelic aussie artistes the avalanches.

london photographer sarah duncan has built hersel' a new website and damn fine it is too with some amazing architectural images from around the metropolis.

no more to say, other than i sent off for the new throbbing gristle cd 'tg now' - the first tg studio material in over 20 years - and i'm listening to it right now. i am, as they say, worshipping the glitch and by fuck it's good.

it's tough trying to be professional / funny / yourself simultaneously, especially in the context of an 'industry interview'. anyway, i tried my best - here's an interview with yours truly from 'australian music online'

i've just been through a few random tunes on my iPod and i've just realised something odd. seems that i've been inadvertently enjoying some filthy pop music of late. so, the only way to cleanse myself of the shame is just to go public with such guilty music pleasures, so here goes. i confess to having enjoyed girls aloud 'the show', rachel 'i was once in s-club 7' stevens 'some girls' (methinks the girl has been listening to goldfrapp a little too much) and (yup, hit me, go on) frankie's 'fuck you righ back' - i just can't get enough of hearing 'fuck' so many times on one song on prime time cable television. good on ya, girl :-)

to cleanse your mind of such things and to freely download some honest-to-goodness weird, art rockin', glitchy, downbeat beauty - head over to fat planet...

it's been a testing time this week - no internet connection. which, for me, is much like having no toes. i can walk ok, but i'm a little orientated. and i look like a freak too.

this morning i filled in for jess keeley (fbi's breakfast show host) as she was on her sick bed. it'll be fun (i thought) - get about five hours sleep, get up at 5am, on air at 6, and then interview ben lee at 7.45 with a live phone cross from sydney to montreal at 8am. what could be easier? well, i think this morning will be forever known as my 'ben lee moment' - when technology fails and all those hours of training go out of the window and you're left (as my mate roddy would say) 'like a treen in a disabled spaceship' (ok, it's a dan dare joke, limited audience). needless to say there was about 20 minutes of hideous radio this morning where everything that could go wrong did go wrong, finishing with me asking ben to whistle to fill dead air, while i desperately tried to work out what the hell was going to happen next. ah, these things are sent to build character, right? or sent to give you a punch in the stomach, one of the two...

here's how the story goes. phena, duncan and i record some music and post it anonymously to the radio station i work at (fbi 94.5fm). next thing we know, the demo gets playlisted. every one comes clean, much swearing ensues and we all go home happy. to download the demo (three tracks), go to the new 'mammalian' page.
