this is decidely scary shit.

On May 10 Steven Kurtz went to bed a married art professor. On May 11 he woke up a widower. By the afternoon he was under federal investigation for bioterrorism. What began as a personal tragedy for Mr Kurtz has turned into what many believe is, at best, an overreaction prompted by 9/11 paranoia and, at worst, a politically motivated attempt to silence a radical artist.

another exercise in vanity - pic from saturday night's 'japanese' set (note very fortuitous use of godzilla t-shirt...)

found this on music for robots - just in case any of you had any doubt (and we're all smart people here, right? so i know that's not the case...), webshite has posted a flash file that exposes the dire turgid nonsense that is nickelback. the file plays a 2001 single through your left speaker, a 2003 single through the right - spot the difference? i defy you to!

last night dj-ing at the state theatre bar - two hours of japanese music preceeding a screening of the original 1954 print of 'godzilla'. not exactly a crowd who would be excited by such a concept. one idiot dude was positively offended by the fact that i would only play japanese music and demanded that i play something he could dance to ... in a lounge bar ... full of people relaxing. i should have dropped merzbow like i promised myself and watched his eyes bleed ... grr-arrg muthafucka!!!

thanks to linnie for the link to 'the shining re-enacted by bunnies in 30 seconds'. really, is that what the global information superhighway was built for :-)

adbusters are at it again with unbrandamerica.org - i share the sentiments, although the action of flying the bastardised american flag might look a little weird in australia. if there's any american cousins reading this, check the above link for some insightful info.

apparently 'glasgow kiss' has been added to the oxford english dictionary. any chance of 'dunderheid' next? link supplied by nick, as was this one for the bush-reagan zombie campaign ticket. niccccccce braaaaaaaaaains. segway>> just back from seeing the australian test screening of 'shaun of the dead'. verdict- fucking great. forget the dawn of the dead remake and get a slice of this north london 'romantic comedy with zombies'.

sometimes you need to share. and i feel i need to share this. i found it on a forum on inthemix.com.au - australia's main dance music resource. it's a review from someone who went to see "the klf" (sic) at a recent melbourne show. i don't think i need to say anything else, needs no further comment :-)

"Dance music fans are used to glittery gorgeous singers fronting studio projects - from the vocalist of Black Box miming Martha Walshes vocals to the scandal that was Milli Vanilli - in order to hear the music we've purchased on CD in a 'live' environment, we've had to put up with it all: lip syncing, rotating lead singers and knob twiddling DJs fronted by hired dancers. But nothing - I repeat NOTHING - could have prepared me for the utter abomination that was "The KLF" (alongside C&C Music Factory and Snap!) at Sweatfest (Metro, Sat June 5th). C&C where represented by the talented Barbara Tucker, respected house diva and former choreographer for the dance troupe. Snap!s Turbo B put in a good performance for Snap!

"But the controversy I want to address here is regarding the KLF. First, a bit of background as to why rapper/singer Wanda Dee tours under the 'KLF' moniker. The REAL KLF - Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty - sampled Wanda's voice in 2 of their biggest hits 'What Time Is Love' and 'Last Train To Trancentral'. Although amounting to mere snippets of sound ("I wanna see you sweat" and "Come on boy do ya wanna ride"), Wanda commenced legal action to ensure she received royalties, publishing rights and even appearances in the KLF videos. Wanda now believes this gives her the right to tour under such aliases as "Wanda Dee and the new KLF", "The KLF featuring Wanda Dee" or "Wanda Dee and the KLF Experience". A more appropriate name would be "Wanda Dee's Cabaret Act Trampling The Legacy Of The Real KLF".

"When Wanda stepped onto stage wearing a fluffy feather jacket over leather chaps and G string, I suspected that I was not about to witness one of dance music's most respected artists, responsible for cutting edge stadium anthems and the revered White Room album. Instead I stood open mouthed and shocked as Wanda and her dancers desecrated their music, history and legend by prancing around stage in leather outfits while her effeminate, whip-cracking husband (sporting a leopard print coat and jehri curl haircut circa Ice Cube 1989) fleeted around like a ballerina with a cactus up his/her ass.

"Not only did this foul cabaret act defile the legacy of the KLF, her talentless fairy of a husband had the audacity to disrespect Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty - the REAL KLF producers - mid performance. Preaching to the 1000+ crowd of youngsters and twentysomethings that "The real KLF producers cant sing or dance", and are "boring old farts who sit in a studio" the talentless f*ckwit argued that his aberration is keeping the spirit of the music alive. This was taking a cruel joke too far. The audience of Melbourne Australia was one of hundreds being defrauded worldwide by Wanda and her d*ck head moron husband.

"Wanda, take yourself, your leather outfits, dancers and f*ckwit husband (who cant even shout the one-line rap ad-libs of 'Back with a heavyweight jam' on time) to the Vegas show circuit. There you can dance and sing to Tina Turner and Prince hits to your hearts content. But should you ever dare to tour Melbourne Australia as the 'KLF' again, you can expect to be greeted by 'F*ck off, we want the REAL KLF' banners and a good pelting of eggs (unfortunately, I don't own a firearms). You have been warned".

ouch.

in case you missed the obvious link to the left (it's like a sign on a door - when do we actually read them?) - the mp3 blog has moved off to its own shiny new address, namely fatplanet.com.au. this had been staring me in the face for a long time (splitting my assets, so to speak) and finally it's happened. which means those of you interested in music can head over there, whilst the more voyeuristic of us can find solace in this little URL. so welcome back to the simple life :-) and fortunately there's no hiltons in sight...
