i don't normally do whole straight-lifts of content, however this item from the popbitch newsletter doesn't yet feature on their web site, so here it is in all its glory :-)

The Kuwait Konspiracy
Why the Iraq war really happened

Popbitch recently met a mysterious man claiming to be a senior Kuwaiti politician. He was accompanied by two lesbian Russian hookers and, after a few drinks, told us the real story of the Middle East.

1. The Kuwaiti government paid $20 billion to USA to "take out" Saddam Hussein. (Pays for Bush's tax cuts and could help him get re-elected.) The Iraq war was therefore the most expensive hired hit in history.

2. Saddam and his sons were killed on day nine.

3. Al Qaeda had no involvement in Iraq - the Kuwaiti has met with Osama Bin Laden since the war and reports that Osama is delighted that Saddam's been dispensed with.

4. The good news is Iran and Syria are safe. No-one wants to pay Bush to attack them. Yet.

this may look like an ordinary black dot, and - granted - it IS an ordinary black dot, but we should never be fooled by appearances. although diminutive in stature, this little icon is something a giant-killer and is being touted as the most effective way of taking the nike out of niketown USA. those shrinking violets at adbusters.org - producers of both 'buy nothing day' and 'turn off tv week' have come up with 'unbrand america' - a cross-media campaign due to run on good ol' july 4th. the idea is simple - the dot disfigures / disguises / smears corporate iconography whether that be in print (an ad will appear in the NY Times), on TV (on MTV - which is slightly surprising as the music monolith banned the last adbusters commercial...) and, undoubtedly, as a gesture of protest on a billboard near you.

from unbrandamerica.org :
"This is the mark of the people who don't approve of Bush's plan to control the world, who don't want countries "liberated" without UN backing, who can't stand anymore neo-con bravado shoved down their throats. This is the mark of the people who want the Kyoto Protocol for the environment, who want the International Criminal Court for greater justice, who want a world where all nations, including the U.S.A., are free of weapons of mass destruction, and who pledge to take their country back."

added some pics to june's photolog from yesterday's trip out to the pacific outlook at south head, sydney - beautiful spot, if you can set aside any extra-curricular interest in the army compound and naturist beach (for the record, the beach was vacant). once at south head, you can stare out over the ocean and be assured that the next stop is south america...

i finally managed to catch up on some photo archiving today ::: there's a new sidebar nav on the weblog section called photolog (up all night thinking up that one) and it logs pics month by month. from june, there's some imgs from recent trips to the blue mountains and from out in the bush at wydongadingo. and i thought woolloomoolloo was a mouthful...

i might be on the other side of the spinning globe, but i like to keep an eye on what's occuring back in the you-k. i came across reflag whilst browsing on the bbc site last week - the campaign to 're-design' the union jack to make it reflect the cultural diversity of the country. i have to say that whilst i'm not convinced that re-drawing the flag will cure any ills, i do actually like the new-look design. reflag are brave enough to post comments from both sides of the divide - well worth a look.

he is most defintely carnival personnel... jerry springer is considering running for senate and is having an 'exploratory' in ohio (cue all sorts of beavis and butthead gags). he has a new site called run jerry run complete with many imgs of jerr with his arm around various yokels. oh, sorry, you actually can't actually say 'yokel' and certainly not 'slack-jawed yokel'... see jerry's video clips to find out why...

also spotted: hans blix having a go at the "bastards" in washington; gollum's mtv awards acceptance speech (video clip); the return of rat-eating aliens in crap orange neoprene suits - 'v' is back in a new three hour tv movie; and according to one journo at least, with the new itunes music store "apple has invented the aural equivalent of a nicotine fit" - yup, believe the hype, apple is coming to getcha. which reminds me, i must tell you about my new 30GB iPod sometime soon :-)

a while back i wrote a few lines on how over half of americans belived that saddam was directly responsible for 9-11. now the information clearing house site has reported that 34% of americans believe that the US has found weapons of mass destruction. it's worth bearing in mind that a poll a few years ago showed that a similar number of americans also believed that UFOs were real and that we were due for an invasion "real soon". i don't want to come across as being anti-american, not true - it's the american media that's to blame and it's easy to see why. just refer back to bowling for columbine or anything by chomsky and it's all there to see.

they're all over every front cover everywhere you look, but there's no denying that radiohead's hail to the thief is a great album. i know i was out on a limb when i said that amnesiac was one of their greatest yet, but on hail to the thief they've brought all their disparate parts together under one roof. they've finally proven that electronica + rock can jump into bed together and have it off with outstanding results. pitchfork media gives it 9.3 out of 10. (9.3?? who invented the decimal point for reviews??)

with each new technological shift, comes a resultant shift in law, lifestyle and behaviour. which is a grand way of saying that mobiles with cameras are now being banned in australian swimming pools for fear that your bony ass will be appearing on a global voyuer site sometime soon. be afraid, budgie smugglers.

forgive me peggy suicide, for i have not blogged. it's been two weeks since my last entry, but - you know - there's a big fucking world out there that just commands your attention now and again and demands that you leave your titanium dungeon and go out and see a bit of sunshine :-)

"if you want to establish a new norm, you have to do something. and the easiest way to do it is to select a completely defenseless target, which can be completely overwhelmed by the most massive military force in human history." ::: new interview with noam chomsky at the monthly review site ::: monthlyreview.org

in australia last week, the supreme court was asked to determine whether two frozen embryos should share in their grandmother's estate. in the end, the judge found a loophole in the grandmammy's will and declined to include the embryos in the AUS$1million payout. truly the world is turning topsy turvy, sire ::: smh.com.au

there's a standard mars / nasa puff piece on bbc.co.uk, but i liked nasa's closing remarks from mark adler : "earth and mars exchanged material in the early days when life was forming on earth. Was mars part of our past? maybe we are the martians."

matt sent me an article that reminded me of the old 'nationwide' april fool prank of spaghetti growing on trees. this time around, it's fake meat that's growing on trees, achieved by injecting cow genes into grapefruits. bear in mind this is from the weekly world news, home of 'elvis is alive and well and shagging her off of home and away' ::: yahoo.com

finally, japan has smacked us in the gob once again, this time with their own tatu clones. their name suitei shoujo, according to popbitch, translates as 'presumed girls'... a jap-ladyboy-tatu-tribute? time to get off this rock... ::: suiteishojo.com
