just finished the latest book by douglas coupland 'hey nostradamus'. it's essentially the story of columbine-style massacre told from four different perspectives and told across a 12-year span. coupland always writes with a black-as-night sense of humour and this one's no exception. however, the major surprise was just how moving the book was - especially the final part. maybe i'm just getting soft in my old age :-) highly recommended. coupland also doesn't seemingly believe in the standard puff promotion for his works - have a look at his site and the page for the book, especially his installation work.

mac users who're frustrated at the lack of mac support for audiogalaxy and the like, should look no further than acquisition. it's not as emcompassing as big daddies of the p2p world, but it's definitely worth a shot if you're looking for those hard-to-find gems.

marilyn manson is on the iTunes, never thought i'd see the day ... well, it's not as rawk as it sounds. i was trawling through some old mix tapes, looking to put together a possible 1978-1982 electro pop retrospective for the radio station. came across gary numan's (or rather tubeway army's) most excellent 'down in the park'. had a browse online for some cover versions as i know there are heaps of numan worshippers out there. and so it turns out that jimi tenor, marilyn manson and (heaven forbid) the foo fighters have all had a shot at this old piece of electro melancholia. so, i downloaded manson and tenor's versions - couldn't be more different .... also found moloko having a crack at 'are friends electric', which is just freakin' odd ... anyroad, get on yr P2P and track them down.

i wouldn't be able to do the fat planet show on FBi without the glorious interweb - around 25% of the tracks are downloads (official, natch). that's how you find egyptian electro and phillipino hip-hop... so i thought i'd try and log a few of these links each week, starting from here :::
