mp3: VARIOUS PRODUCTION hater
mp3: THOM YORKE analyse (various production remix)
various production‘s ‘the world is gone’ is sitting high around the top of my favourite albums of this year. an original mix of alt.folk, dubstep and hard, downtempo electronica (and the odd sea shanty thrown in for good measure), i can’t help but feel that it’s been largely overlooked by the media, both online and off. this might be to do with the fact that the duo have done an excellent job of keeping the ether free of any relevant information whatsoever – there are no credits with the album and their web site, whilst beautiful, is devoid of text. as for their release schedule – the promised remixes of the class album track ‘hater’ never seem to have surfaced and a new single titled ‘bruk/homedit’ touted for november has yet to hit stores (although cargo lists it as shipping this week).
in this celebrity driven world, it’s a small relief to find such an oasis of mystery, however it doesn’t really satiate my intense desire to follow the musical trail through their back story, their collaborators and their key influences. and i’ll wager it doesn’t do much to drive album sales either. in addition to ‘hater’, a key track from the album, i’m hoping that this official thom yorke rmx will tempt you into the record store. like a fan boy’s wet dream come true, label mate thom has not only commissioned various production to remix his eraser track ‘analyse’, he’s also generously given it away just to prove that the spirit of xmas is alive and kicking in radiohead land. there’s also a second remix, from surgeon, at theeraser.net.
