UBER LINGUA – SUNDAY 10th Dec with Ollo & Charlie McMahon

big week at uber lingua this week – here’s the deets…
International music crew, Uber Lingua, continue their summer ǃÚarvo-eveningǃ٠residency at the Abercrombie Hotel in Ultimo on Sunday 10th December.
olloFollowing the release of their new album, ǃ?The If Ifǃ?, Sydney electronic duo Ollo (right) relish the opportunity offered by Uber Lingua to experiment with a broader musical remit, – embracing the mantra of ǃ?extreme cultural diversityǃ? they hit the Abercrombie with a German DJ set they describe as ǃ?Neu Deutsche Welleǃ?.
Resident Mashy P will be dj-ing in tandem with a live performance from Charlie McMahon – generally regarded as one of the world’s top exponents of the Didjeridu, and inventor of the ǃ?seismic recording deviceǃ?, the Face Bass (designed to give the didge a deeper, rounded sound). McMahon was a principle member of Gondwanaland, who released five albums throughout the 80s and 90s ÇƒÏ and were among the first musicians worldwide to mix indigenous music with contemporary production.
Following their hugely successful performance at Uber LinguaǃÙs launch party, house band Social Progression Sound System return with their live blend of funk, latin and hip hop. Developing out from the initial MC & DJs set-up, Social Progression bring a full seven-piece live band to Uber Lingua on Sunday 10th.
Guest DJ Jack Shit is well renowned around Sydney for his eclectic and remarkable DJ sets, and for his Saturday afternoon excursions on FBi Radio. HeǃÙll be pulling a characteristically diverse set of international tunes from his box, focussing on latin & gypsy flavours – old, new, borrowed and blue.
Stu Buchanan (from FBiǃÙs Fat Planet) rounds out the bill in classic Uber Lingua style – mixing baile funk, bhangra, dancehall, afro hiphop, reggaeton, Baltimore, kuduro, latino and balkan beats.
Set in the sunny outdoor settings of the Abercrombie garden and with hot fresh food on the barbie, Uber Lingua runs from 4pm til late. Free before 7pm, five bucks after. All the right ingredients for the perfect Summer Sunday.
