releasing her debut EP on the new Wood &amp; Wire label.<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since its launch in June 2009, <strong>New Weird Australia<\/strong> has supported and promoted hundreds of artists at home and overseas through its compilation series, live events and other initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To celebrate its third birthday, New Weird Australia is launching three new projects: an open-source, pop-up gig series titled &#8216;<strong>Vagrant<\/strong>&#8216;; a new digital record label, &#8216;<strong>Wood &amp; Wire<\/strong>&#8216; and an ongoing blog supporting video work from Australian artists, &#8216;<strong>Output Device<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/span><!--more--><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8216;<strong>Vagrant<\/strong>&#8216; is a pop-up gig series,\u00a0offering small grants to local promoters to stage one-off events under the &#8216;<strong>Vagrant<\/strong>&#8216; banner. \u00a0Following a call-out in April, the series will call at<em>\u00a0Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne &amp; Newcastle<\/em> during June &amp; July, drawing from a line-up that includes\u00a0<strong>Holy Balm, Rites Wild, Asps,\u00a0No Anchor,\u00a0Blank Realm,\u00a0Kane Ikin,\u00a0Per Purpose, Terrible Truths, Anonymeye,\u00a0Rational Academy, Talkshow Boy, Feet Teeth, Scraps,\u00a0Major Crimes, Naps, Wooshie<\/strong> and more.\u00a0Venues and dates will be announced shortly.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8216;<strong>Wood &amp; Wire<\/strong>&#8216;\u00a0is a new digital record label, promoting experimentation in Australian music across all genres. \u00a0Born of New Weird Australia, but existing separately from it, &#8216;Wood &amp; Wire&#8217; launches with four free releases:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8216;<em>Inter Alia<\/em>&#8216; from Melbourne duo <strong>Peon<\/strong>, featuring Lloyd Swanton from The Necks<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the debut release from young experimental electronic producer, <strong>Emily Grantham<\/strong>, titled &#8216;<em>Chocolate Syrup<\/em>&#8216;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">a complete remake of the reviled Lou Reed &amp; Metallica album &#8216;<em>Lulu<\/em>&#8216; from <strong>BOK Darklord <\/strong>(aka Buttress O&#8217;Kneel and Lucas Darklord)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and the self-titled debut from <strong>Machine Death<\/strong>, featuring renowned experimental artist Ben Byrne and Ivan Lisyak from The Paper Scissors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Download the first four releases at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.woodandwire.com.au\/\"><span style=\"color: #b22222;\">woodandwire.com.au<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The third and final project to be launched this month is &#8216;<strong>Output Device<\/strong>&#8216;. \u00a0Recognising a lack of a central platform for video work from artists in the New Weird Australia vein, &#8216;<strong>Output Device<\/strong>&#8216; is an ongoing blog project that curates new clips at\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/outputdevice.tumblr.com\"><span style=\"color: #b22222;\">outputdevice.tumblr.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. \u00a0Submissions from artists are welcomed and encouraged.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">These three projects cap a highly successful 36 months for New Weird Australia. \u00a0Most recently, the eleventh volume in its free compilation series was released &#8211; a co-curation with Melbourne label <strong>Fallopian Tunes<\/strong>, the 22- track &#8216;<em>Gloss &amp; Moss<\/em>&#8216; collection has recorded over 4,000 downloads in its first month and is available from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/newweirdaustralia.com\/projects\/new-weird-australia-vs-fallopian-tunes-gloss-moss\/\"><span style=\"color: #b22222;\">newweirdaustralia.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. \u00a0In addition, New Weird Australia&#8217;s 2010 release from Sydney artist <strong>Paneye<\/strong>, &#8216;<em>Lost In A Dark Aquarium<\/em>&#8216; last month hit the 17,500 download mark &#8211; the project&#8217;s most successful release to date. \u00a0The next release in the compilation series &#8211; released on July 6th &#8211; will celebrate the country&#8217;s West Coast experimental scene, with a collection dedicated to Perth.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pictured: Emily Grantham &#8211;
