\nSATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2009
\nRed Rattler, 6 Faversham Street, Marrickville
\nThree FBi radio shows, New Weird Australia, Unputdownable & Sunday Night At The Movies<\/strong>, came together to present \u2018Unpopular Music<\/strong>\u2019 \u2013 a benefit to support their station. They pooled their collective networks and gathered twelve<\/strong> of Sydney\u2019s<\/strong>innovative<\/strong>, experimental<\/strong> artists<\/strong> \u2013 all of whom are donated their time, with all proceeds going directly to FBi, helping to ensure the ongoing survival of Sydney\u2019s home of new music.
\nThe line-up was headed by Pimmon <\/strong>& Jeff Burch <\/strong>\u2013 playing both solo sets and a joint live performance, launching their new\u00a0collaborative project, Mandala Trap<\/strong>. Pimmon <\/strong>has forged an international reputation for creating dense, challenging and\u00a0engaging electronic music \u2013 and, under his given name of Paul Gough<\/strong>, also presents a show on FBi titled Paul\u02bcs Play\u00a0<\/strong>Lunch<\/strong>. Jeff Burch <\/strong>runs The Spring Press <\/strong>label, was formerly one quarter of Sydney band Songs <\/strong>and launched his solo record\u00a0in 2009 on Perth\u02bcs Farmer Frontier <\/strong>label.
\nThe all-Sydney bill also included:
\n\u2022 Kyu <\/strong>an experimental pop outfit who delivered an amazing performance at the New Weird Australia showcase\u00a0at Sound Summit
\n\u2022 Anon <\/strong>aka noise artist, musician and label manager Anna Vo
\n\u2022 Scissor Lock, <\/strong>an experimental project from musician Marcus Whale
\n\u2022 Anna Chase, <\/strong>a multi instrumentalist and vocalist who weaves melodies into familiar yet dreamy pop constructions.
\n\u2022 sound artist, musician and chronic circuit bender Nick Wishart \u2013 <\/strong>long-standing member of Toydeath<\/strong>
\n\u2022 plus DJ Sets <\/strong>from Kevin Purdy <\/strong>(Tooth), Tim Ritchie <\/strong>(Sound Quality, ABC Radio National) and Tom Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(Cleptoclectics).
\nSydney design crew Sopp Collective<\/strong>\u00a0also jumped on board by donating their unique design talents for the event\u00a0poster and flyer, featuring a unique series of \u02bbUnpopular Creatures\u02bc \u2013 the degenerate \u02bbyin\u02bc to Yo Gabba Gabba<\/em>\u02bcs \u02bbyang\u02bc.
