{"id":10118,"date":"2010-12-03T16:02:39","date_gmt":"2010-12-03T05:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stuartbuchanan.com\/?p=10118"},"modified":"2021-01-30T23:37:58","modified_gmt":"2021-01-30T23:37:58","slug":"unpopular-music-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stuartbuchanan.com\/archives\/2010\/12\/03\/unpopular-music-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"Unpopular Music 2010, A Benefit for FBi Radio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stuartbuchanan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/NWAUM002.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10942\" src=\"http:\/\/stuartbuchanan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/NWAUM002.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOn Friday 3rd December 2010, New Weird Australia presented the second annual Unpopular Music event at Sydney\u2019s Red Rattler, a benefit for the not-for-profit\u00a0community station, FBi Radio.\u00a0The six-act line-up was headlined by\u00a0Scattered Order, one of the most unique players in the history of Sydney\u2019s experimental and electronic music scene<!--more--> \u2013 founders of the M Squared record label in 1970s, a home for artists such as Systematics and Makers of the Dead Travel Fast, and a beacon for emerging underground artists around the country. Reforming their original line-up in 2009, Scattered Order played \u2018Unpopular Music\u2019 in support of their new album, \u2018Adjust The Terminology\u2019.<br \/>\nSince July 2009, FBi has supported the New Weird Australia project by broadcasting its two-hour show every week. Via this platform, New Weird Australia has given exposure to over 400 innovative and experimental artists from around the country, and Unpopular Music represents the chance to give something back. All of the artists donated their time for the gig, with all proceeds going directly to FBi, helping to ensure the ongoing survival of Sydney\u2019s home of new music.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe bill also included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tantrums\u00a0\u2013 four-piece midi-evil disco outfit from Melbourne,\u00a0whose debut release \u2018Anomie\u2019 was released via New Weird Australia\u2019s label imprint, New Editions<\/li>\n<li>Thomas William\u00a0vs\u00a0Scissor Lock<a title=\"Scissor Lock\" href=\"http:\/\/newweirdaustralia.com\/artists\/scissor-lock\/\">\u00a0<\/a>\u2013 two of Sydney\u2019s best known experimental electronic producers went head-to-head for the first time at Unpopular Music<\/li>\n<li>Melodie Nelson \u2013 Moonmilk\u2019s Lia Tsamoglou in warped, alt.pop mode<\/li>\n<li>Stitched Vision\u00a0\u2013 solo synth \/ noise \/ drone project from Newcastle\u2019s Jason Campbell, founder of cassette-label Eternal Solitude<\/li>\n<li>Mere Women \u2013 dark, minimalistic pop &amp; post punk from recently formed Sydney trio, who previous projects include Ohana, Little A, The Thaw &amp; Bare Arms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fbiradio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FBi Radio<\/a>\u00a0is a not-for-profit community radio station and is 100% independent.
