mp3: ELLEN ALLIEN & APPARAT do not break
she’s one of the most innovative german electronic artists around, and he’s – well – one of the most innovative german electronic artists around. unite these two elements and you’re bound to get fireworks, or in this particular case, bubbles. loads of bubbles, an entire orchestra in fact. the marriage of berlin’s ellen allien and sascha ring (otherwise known as apparat) was surely met by many with a knife-sharp sense of anticipation. ellen, founder of berlin’s bpitch control, is renowned for combining a deep love for the basic tenants of techno and forging them with the desire to make braniac electronica work a little harder than it’s used to. apparat, on the other hand, struck gold with the stuttering, glitch-strewn electronica of his shitkatapult release ‘duplex’, before further confounding expectation with the lush melodies and, dare we say it, “song stuctures” of the later ‘slizium e.p.’ (particular the stunning lead track ‘komponent’). this new collaboration, released on ellen’s label, is entitled ‘orchestra of bubbles’ and, if the above preview download is anything to go by, the whole is worth so much more than the sum of its parts.
