sov has been dodging definition for the last 12 months, flying out of the uk garage scene and now dropping tunes that blend her original grime style with pop, hip hop and punk. she’s been given a hand up the ladder by jay-z, who has signed her to def jam, and he promises collaborations with the creme-de-la of american production talent. missy and the neptunes have already been cited as possible partners in crime, but here’s hoping that sov continues to plow the rich seam that began with her chocolate industries e.p. ‘vertically challenged’ (which featured her best mix to date – ‘fiddle with the volume’ redone by mister ghislain poirer). and now sov gets baltimore – after a mix of ‘hoodie’ by spank rock gushed around the web late last year, here’s xxxchange‘s smart remix of ‘chi-ching’ (thanks to the fader).
