i’d like to meet disco d and just ask him about the whole k-fed deal. (k-fed being kevin feder-whatever, britney‘s now ex-husband – and disco d being the man who produced a baile funk track for him. the world is twisted for sure…). the word ‘redemption’ floats into mind though, not only for disco d‘s excellent productions ‘fuck me on the dancefloor’ and ‘let’s hug it out bitch’, but also for his new work with brazilian band braza.
described by disco d as “3 brasileros and a gringo loco”, braza drop two tracks on the disco d web site. ‘son do braza’ adopts a baile funk rhythm with braza rapping in english instead of the customary portuguese – this in itself is an interesting touch. braza aside, it seems baile funk is breaking out of the favelas, and is starting to be adopted as the pet sounds of some of america’s sweethearts. i’ve yet to hear it, but i believe there’s a kelly osbourne baile funk remix out there. lock up your ears.
the 2nd track, ‘welcome to brasil’, is straight-up hip hop, dropping some gat samples and some acoustic guitar; not ground-breaking but good to hear trad. u.s. hip hop refracted through the brazilian lens.

there’s also a movie of braza recording in disco d‘s studio. this also appears to be a good excuse for d to show off his smart new tattoo (also see above pic, centre).
