UBER LINGUA RETURNS TO SYDNEY
AustraliaǃÙs international music crew, Uber Lingua, return to Sydney on November 19th to set up camp for a summer season at the Abercrombie Hotel in Ultimo. With their unique brand of ǃÚextreme cultural diversityǃÙ, Uber Lingua brings together resident selectors, house bands, guest sound systems and local trans-linguist DJs in the sunny outdoor settings of the Abercrombie garden ÇƒÏ and with exotic, international food on the barbie, all the right ingredients are in the place for the perfect Summer Sunday.
Uber Lingua has become a regular fixture at MelbourneǃÙs legendary St Jeromes for the last three years, mixing alternative international sounds such as baile funk, bhangra, dancehall, afro hiphop, reggaeton, Baltimore, kuduro, latino and balkan beats with electro, rock, hiphop and all other genres from regions less travelled. The brainchild of broadcaster and producer Brendan Palmer (bP), the project has since been extended into Hobart, Adelaide, Brisbane and last year to Candys Apartment in Sydney – as well as broadcasting weekly on SBS Alchemy Radio.
Uber Lingua has welcomed many Australian underground DJs and performers into the family (including Raceless from Curse Ov Dialect, Mashy P, Wire MC, Sven Simulacrum and more) as well as providing a platform for international acts such as Nortec Collective / Bostich (Mexcio), Ove Naxx (Japan), Deadbeat (Germany), Sinpare (Kenya), Filastine (U.S.), Liberation Chabalala (South Africa) and Future World Funk (U.K.). The crew also recently supported Lily Allen on her Australian promo tour.
Firing up the Abercrombie this summer will be a crew of Uber Lingua Sydney residents including local producer and promoter Mashy P, Stu Buchanan (host of FBiǃÙs Fat Planet), Sheerien (from SBSǃ٠Alchemy) and bP. In addition, Uber Lingua breaks the mould on the traditional DJ concept by introducing resident house bands and sound systems ÇƒÏ Gypsy Dub Sound System (featuring Trevor Brown of Waiting For Guinness) and Social Progression Sound System (funked Latin dub hop) – playing their own individual sets as well as blending their sounds into the DJ sets across the night. Each Uber event will climax with DJ tag teams (one on, one off) bringing the collective together as one.
Future Sundays include guest touring internationals & other local trans-linguists including Man About Town, Ollo DJs, Hezekiah, sakamoiz, Prince V, James Locksmith, Spex, Wire MC & Morganics.
