christmas has indeed come early with this upfront preview of the new m.i.a. album. having heard that uk producer switch will take on the lion’s share of the co-production duties, i’m guessing his hands are on this one as it’s very much in his style. however, as it’s hosted on diplo‘s murdochspace, it may very well be a wes production. this is essentially a spoken-word joint from maya, blending tech and funk carioca micro-samples.
the above img is a still from the video clip for the first single from the album ‘bird flu’, filmed in one of the south indian villages hit by the recent tsunami. according to maya, she called the track ‘bird flu’ because “this beat gon kill everyone”. the album is apparently due to drop early next year.
