as one of my home country’s quality musical exports, i have a soft spot for boards of canada – in spite of the constant deafening roar of the grudge match between the devotees and the naysayers, whose numbers seem evenly matched. the debate (essentially that of ‘genius or charlatans?’) shows no signs of losing its steam; new fuel for the fire being their latest release ‘trans canada highway’. the lead track ‘dayvan cowboy’ is possibly their most accessible work to date, made all the more so by their first official music video. the clip, directed by melissa olson, involves skydivers plunging headlong into the ocean, reborn as buff surfers – with all the look and feel of an aftershave commercial. an odd choice for their first foray into the video world. the e.p., featuring five new tracks (including a much anticipated remix from odd nosdam of cloudead) is released on 6th june through warp records.
